The Strait of Hormuz Transit Fee proposal faced legal, economic and diplomatic challenges, highlighting the importance of freedom of navigation and global energy security.
Trump had announced that the US would become “THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT” and, as a matter of fairness, be reimbursed at 20% on all cargo shipped to cover the costs of providing security in the region. However, the proposal left several critical questions unanswered:
