Ribosomes are non - membranous, extremely small, round bodies found either in the free state in the cytoplasm or attached to the surface of the ER. They are composed of ribonucleoprotein (ribonucleic acid and protein).
The only cell organelle seen in prokaryotic cells is the ribosome. Prokaryotic cells, which include bacteria and archaea, lack membrane-bound organelles that are characteristic of eukaryotic cells. While prokaryotic cells do not have a well-defined nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, or membrane-bound organelles like mitochondria and chloroplasts, they do contain ribosomes.
Ribosomes in prokaryotic cells are responsible for protein synthesis, just as in eukaryotic cells
